    Very nice place! Had a late brunch (really just breakfast food during lunch) and enjoyed our first time here. I had the Meaty Mary and she had the Captain Crunch for drinks. Both were very well made and delightful in presentation and quality. For plates, she had the chorizo breakfast tacos and I had a monster burrito (the kitchen sink, I believe). Quick to come out and service was great. I got the wrong meats in mine, but another came out quick and I got an extra burrito to take home. Can't complain there. Atmosphere was hopping! We didn't arrive with reservations and there was a 45 minute wait, Sunday brunch. To be expected for sure, but if you want to get there and sit, I'd call ahead. Remember to grab a marker or Sharpie pen and graffiti up the walls with your tag or signature. Definitely makes the place unique and fun. It's now part of the list of places that I'll consider for an awesome brunch. I hope you try it and think the same!

    This place has all the character I love when I'm in the need for a cool, chillaxing, breakfast. No hustle & bustle on this Monday morning. We were the first to arrive & dine at 7:10am so it was perfectly peaceful. Greeted with smiles & coffee cups by 2 adorable young ladies. Led to our seats & served with pleasure. Annie was a sweetheart and did great serving. The manager was also attentive and came over to ale sure we were comfortable and taken care of. Now for the food: Biscuits & Gravy - hearty, plentiful, a tad salty but good according to my dining partner. Veggie White Omelet - fluffy, large, tasty but not very flavorful (I probably needed cheese or light seasoning) Pancake - okay, not fluffy but soft & kinda thin, the compote on top was decent Coffee - it's Kaldi's what more can I say Water - ice cold I enjoyed the ambiance & friendly service more than anything. Grab a marker on your way out to mark your territory.

    I always go to the corner pub and always wanted to try this place. Last week I finally did. First of all, the ambience of the place. There is patron graffiti all over everything, but somehow it still feels like a nice restaurant. Second, the food. Two of my coworkers had the burgers and they both enjoyed them. I had a spicy chicken sandwich with sweet potato tots. The tots were amazing and they came with the spicy honey mustard sauce that was excellent for dipping. Service wasn't the best in the world, but it was packed at lunchtime and the waiter had a lot of tables. As a former server I can't really fault him for being busy. He did the best he could and didn't fuss about splitting our check three ways. Overall, I'm definitely a fan of the shack and I want to come back to try their breakfast items and/or brunch. If you order a lunch item, don't forget to order the sweet potato tots. :)

    We went there recently for breakfast. We were 1 of two groups. We were quickly seated given menus and water and some time to review the menus. The waitress was friendly and polite though it was early in the morning (for her AND for us!). Coffee, and lots of it, was my friend. The food didn't take too long when it came out. The waitress had an assist with the food who seemed more interested in getting the food on the table than to the right person. After a bit of shuffling we all had what we ordered. Now, I can only speak for myself but the side replacement of fruit the hash browns was less than tasty. About 1/3 of a Granny Smith chopped up and 1/3 cup of black berries. Not much for having an upcharge. The omelet was good and filling. The English muffin was probably just something out of a package. The waitress was attentive without being hovering - something I have run in to in the past when I was at a table where we were 1 of 2 or 3 tables for the entire place. My family enjoyed everything we had and will most probably return in the future. There are so few good breakfast places in Valley Park area. This is a nice find. Not 100% what I would change to make it 4 or 5 stars... will have to think about it during my next meal.

    Great food and great service! This morning I had the breakfast burrito (Make a grown man cry I believe it was called on the menu) it was awesome! I had a blueberry pancake on the side and it was delicious as well. My daughter had chocolate chip pancakes with sausage and scrambled eggs. Tasted pretty good too! My girlfriend had some sort of Mexican omelet and a ridiculous Bloody Mary with bacon and meat stick straw in it. I'm not much of a Bloody Mary person but it was incredible. Valley Park is getting some pretty amazing places to eat right now. The plaza the shack is in has a couple of other great restaurants to choose from. Three of them being the same chain! (The Corner Bar, The Shack, and The Tavern) Oh yeah! Don't forget to bring a sharpie with you when you visit The Shack. You can write on the walls and tables there!

    I just got back from lunch at The Shack, and I wish I hadn't gone. Because I'm ridiculously full. :) This is a cool little place in Valley Park, located near the intersection of Big Bend and Dougherty Ferry. They serve breakfast daily from 7 AM to 2 PM. Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Because my husband doesn't eat breakfast foods, we had to plan a visit to The Shack during the week so that he could order off of the lunch menu. My brother-in-law ended up joining us. He's try to lose some pounds, and this probably is not the place to go if you're watching your weight. Oop-sy. However, there are a few healthy options here. :) -What to Expect- If I had to describe the decor, I guess I'd call it "farm funky." There's lots of wood, and you apparently can write on the walls (refer to the rules on their website). The tables, or at least the one at which we sat, appear to be made of old doors. The chairs are metal. If you need to use the restroom, it should be easy to find. Just look for the large yellow letters that spell out "POTTY." The parking lot was pretty full when we arrived at 12:20, but the restaurant did not seem incredibly busy. Our hostess did, however, need to clear a table for us. The table was set with three empty glasses. Keeping with the "farm funky" atmosphere, a large glass bottle of water was brought to the table. I ordered a soda ($2.75) because they had Coke products. (Yay!) Speaking of soda . . . Service was fine, and everyone was nice. However, for $2.75, I could have used a third refill. Just sayin'. :) -The Menu- Breakfast choices include omelettes, Texas French toast, buttermilk pancakes (plain, blueberry, or chocolate chip), skillets (served on a bed of hash browns and topped with two eggs), biscuits 'n gravy, breakfast tacos, and a breakfast burrito. Lunch options (M-F only) include The Shack Salad, chili, tacos, burgers, and a variety of sandwiches. Gluten-free selections are available. -The Food- My brother-in-law had the "Because We Can E-Z" ($10). This was two eggs, sausage links, and bacon, served between two GIANT slices of French toast, with a side of hash browns. It was a huge, and it was a thing of beauty. The husband had a plain double burger with a side of fries ($9). The patties were thinnish, but they were thicker than what you get at Steak 'n Shake. I had the "Do It Yourself Meg Ryan" ($9). This included hash browns, eggs, a choice of meat (bacon, sausage, ham, or turkey sausage), and a choice of "bread" (pancake, French toast, English muffin, white toast, wheat toast, or biscuit). I chose scrambled eggs, bacon, and a chocolate chip pancake. The hash browns were adequately crispy. I was happy about that because I really dislike hash-barely-browns. The scrambled eggs probably don't need an explanation, but they had a slight buttery taste. The bacon was cooked well. It wasn't greasy, limp, or burnt. The pancake was topped with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter and was served with a side of warm syrup. I have to admit I initially was disappointed that the chocolate chips had not been mixed in the pancake batter, but my disappointment dissipated when I took a bite. My pancake and plate were hot enough to melt all of the chocolate chips. In fact, as I spread the butter on top of my pancake, I serendipitously created a delightful buttery chocolate sauce. If there's anything that can make chocolate better, it would have to be butter, right? :) -The Rating- I love breakfast places, but my husband doesn't. This is a great find for us because, as long as we visit on a weekday between 11 AM and 2 PM, I can have breakfast while he has a burger. I enjoyed my food, and my husband seemed to enjoy his. It was way too much food for me, but it was totally yum. I'd like to try their French toast sometime, or perhaps one of their lunch sandwiches. I'm even considering heading back tomorrow to try one of their cereal shakes made with yogurt! Sounds like I'm a fan.

    I think this is the first time I've been jealous of the county, like, ever. What a fresh take on breakfast! If you go here and order bacon and eggs, you deserve a punch in the face. There are so many unique offerings, including unique versions of traditional offerings, it's hard to pick. I went for the breakfast tacos - one steak and one chorizo. Served in warm tortillas and individually wrapped in foil, these little beauties were topped with queso blanco cheese, scrambled eggs, salsa fresca and cilantro, served with a side of hash browns. The chorizo blew my mind! Steak is the clear winner in nearly every situation except this one. Trust me. I washed down my meal with a White Trash Screwdriver. I'll admit, the name got my attention, but the ingredients sealed the deal - orange juice, vodka and pear apple cider. Delicious! I'm so pleased to see that they are in the process of opening one soon in Frontenac, so us city folks don't have to venture too far out of our beloved city limits. I can't wait to go back and try a ton more menu items.

    I have eaten here several times now. It took me a few attempts to land on my "thing". I tried the pancakes and they are nothing special. I tried the French toast and didn't care for it at all. (People - SOAK the bread, don't just dip it!!) And then I landed on the kitchen sink skillet!! This is a crispy pile of hashbrowns covered in mushrooms, onions, peppers, bacon, ham, sausage and cheese, with two eggs. AMAZING!! The service is generally pretty good. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The wait can be brutal on the weekends - but they do have coffee while you wait.

    I resisted the urge to make the same mistake twice (burger) and instead ordered the chorizo breakfast tacos. These are the same tacos which a coworker ordered on my last visit and raved about for hours. That was the experience I craved and the one I got on this visit. Two tacos with crispy hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were nicely seasoned and would do well with hot sauce if you're one who puts hot sauce on things. The tacos were the star of the show. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and flavorful while the chorizo brought that signature salty, spicy goodness to the dish. A little chorizo goes a long way and the quantity was neither lacking nor overloaded - it was just right. Add in some sauteed peppers, onions and some cheese and this offering was at once simple yet complex. Very well executed.

    DISCLAIMER: I'VE ONLY BEEN TO BREAKFAST ON THE WEEKEND I love the Corner Pub and the Tavern and had high hopes for the Shack which have since been dashed. The restaurant looks cool. The servers look hip in their yoga pants and shirts. The mugs are adorable, each with their own saying. The menu looks mouthwatering - but looks can be deceiving. In my two visits here I've ordered the DIY Meg Ryan and the Chicken in a Waffle. I remember the DIY MR being pretty standard but tasted fine. The Chicken in a Waffle - big miss for me. The chicken itself is breaded in a thick, sweet waffle batter and fried so when it comes out it looks like a fried mountain on your place. Now I know it said waffle batter but I was still expecting some crispness to the batter which just wasn't there. It was accompanied by way too much butter and too little siracha. The key to a good chicken & waffle, in my opinion, is the interplay between savory and sweet. The Shack's version was just overwhelmingly sweet to the extent I had to add Chalula hot sauce and even that didn't fully balance the dish.

    I wanted breakfast out and was getting bored with my favorite restaurants in the city. So I did what any adventurous Yelper would do, I grabbed my passport and went west. I mean, way west. I went so far west, that I crossed 270. I visited a restaurant that fled the city for the county and had an amazing breakfast. We each started out a different Mary's, I enjoyed a Veggie Mary and my dining partner went "hog" wild with a Meaty Mary. Both were cucumber Effen Vodka and SHACK - seasoned rim. I enjoyed the seasoned rim so much, I tossed my straw aside. However, my friends MM was garnished with bacon and had a beef jerky straw - OMG, it was awesome. My friend raved and raved about his Breakfast Tacos. He's a big fan of pork belly and said, this was one of the best pork belly tacos he has had in STL. His second taco was chorizo and he claimed it was equally as good. His entree came with Hash Browns and they were the perfect Hash Browns. They were served crispy without even requesting that they be served that way. I was so jealous, they looked so good and I wanted them so bad. Sometimes it is hard giving up carbs. Not only did he enjoy those Hash Browns, but he also had a side order of Biscuits and Gravy. It was one big fluffy biscuit smothered in thick milky gravy with chunks of sausage. I have to admit, I became weak, took a bite and now have a new addition to my Biscuits and Gravy list. These were better then B&G's I have had a diner or breakfast only restaurant. My breakfast was the Greek Omelet with sliced tomatoes as my side instead of those amazing Hash Browns. It was a three egg omelet filled with; chicken, tomato, onion spinach and feta cheese. Both the onion and spinach were lightly sautéed before being added to the omelet, making them a flavorful accompaniment to the chicken and feta cheese. The service was super friendly. The ambiance of old doors and being able to write on the walls makes it a unique and fun filled restaurant. Bonus - They still honor the Taste Cards discount for the old Laclede Avenue address.

    After seeing the raving reviews for The Shack's biscuits and gravy, I just had to try them. I ordered the meal that came with two eggs and bacon. And the rumors are true. Amazing! My guest had the Build-Your-Own Omelet and it was perfect too. This place has got it going on!

    Breakfast: get the New York skillet. In house made pastrami. Excellent. Lunch/Dinner: fried pickles are outstanding. So are their tacos and any one of their Shack-wiches. Cole slaw and fries on the sandwich. Good for kids too.

    The service was decent. Some of their dishes seemed really good but my personal experience there sucked. First off I received a dirty water glass. When I pointed this out to my table's server, she gave me another glass that happened to be dirty. Finally the third glass of water was the charm. When my brunch entree came out it had this disgusting sheen on it that tells you it's been sitting for a while. My fried eggs were cold too. I sent the whole thing back. The biscuits and gravy were okay but they overcooked my eggs. I cannot say that it's a bad place. I just had an unfortunate experience there. I will say the management responded great when I complained and for that reason, I would give them a second chance.

    What brought me here was the fact that they have gluten-free offerings. I can't tell you how much I miss eating out, or what a pain in the ass it is when I do...but this place made it a heckova lot easier and the food was good too! I have other dietary restrictions beyond gluten that I won't bore you with, so I'll just tell you what we ordered. I got a custom omelette with bacon, white cheddar and spinach. It was girthy (that's what she said) and delicious. That came with home fries which I got unseasoned because of the dietary thing, but they were still crispy and good. They fry them in a dedicated GF fryer which is awesome. I also got a cuppla GF pancakes with maple syrup. They were really good. The ones I make at home pale in comparison. All my food came out with little wooden flag toothpicks that designated it as gluten free, which is a nice additional touch. My husband got the philly skillet and he said "this was wayyy better than I expected it to be", and was super full from the amount of food. Sidebar: We also scanned the back of the ketchup bottle and played trivial pursuit while waiting for our food, it was a nice time-waster. Apparently we are not smarter than a 5th grader though, oh well. My only complaint is that I wish on their regular menu it would mention they have AN ENTIRE gluten free menu available (apparently the owner's daughter has Celiac's- sadface). I only knew of the separate menu because of visiting the website prior to coming. If I was just a regular walk-in I would have never known and it would deter me from coming in the first place since it's not posted anywhere. Be proud of your G-free-ness!!! Shout it from the rooftops!!! Unfortunately, I still ended up having a reaction and I'll never know what caused it, meaning it's very possible it was something besides what I had at The Shack. I would like to dine here again though, I aint scurred. You shouldn't be either.

    Although I'm pretty pregnant and all I want to eat is pancakes, for some reason I ordered the Greek omelet, and I am sure glad I did! That was one tasty omelet! The amount of food they give you for the price is pretty good too. I liked the atmosphere here, and no one seemed to mind that my daughter made a huge mess (don't worry, I left I good tip). I can't wait to try this again!

    Can't say enough about my experience. The interior is new and hip ( you can write on the walls!) and the food is fresh. Great new combinations and classic breakfast fare that is no more expensive than a trip to Denny's and let's face it there are better options than that. I applaud them and just hope they can keep up the quality as that will determine their future.

    I really enjoyed this little gem! I had the"do It Yourself Meg Ryan" - u pick your pancake, meat, and egg choice plus all orders come with Hash browns. Portion size is huge! Everything was very tasty!! Took half home to my husband and he loved it as well. Price is very reasonable and offerings are plentiful. I am a big breakfast fan and this may be my new go to place. The Manilow french toast looks tasty as well-might try that next go around. Sat in bar and had spectacular service. AND they give you a big carafe of Kaldi's coffee. Need I say more?

    I desperately want to love The Shack, but their service has been disappointing all three times I've been now. I'll start with the positives though. First, the food is delicious. They seem to use quality ingredients and pay nice attention to details. Secondly, the atmosphere is pretty awesome. Third, it's nice to see a restaurant in the county that isn't a chain, and has quality food. Now for the negatives. The last two times I've had the same server in a 6 month span. The young lady was nice, but she wasn't very helpful. Both times she only was there to take our order, drop off our food, and drop off our check. We were never checked on to see if we needed anything else once she dropped off our food, and our check was brought in the middle without asking if we'd like dessert or anything else. One of the times was for my fiancee's birthday, and I would've liked to order dessert. Instead I took her somewhere else after. Last time I went she forgot half my order, and was no where to be found. Then she dropped off the check without saying anything and went to the register to go play with her phone. I know it is 2015 and people should be allowed to keep their phones on them, but if you aren't going to help your tables get off your phone. Go to the kitchen where we can't see you if you are going to play with your phone as well. It's just rude. We will likely be back because we enjoy the food, but we'd be there a lot more if the service had been up to the quality of the food.

    Did not get to eat here yet but ordered drinks at the bar for brunch. We were trying to figure out what to eat, but started off with a mimosa and Bloody Mary. I would say the worst Bloody Mary ever- tasted like pickle juice so we left without trying their food

    Have you ever played Monopoly & been aggravated for having to pay your competition each time you land on their property? Well, that's exactly what the savvy owners of The Tavern and Corner Bar are making happen. They added another weapon to their arsenal. This time w/ a breakfast/brunch hotspot. This space was previously utilized by the forgettable Mexican spots Iggy's & Flip Flops. I have a betting hunch they will prove the old saying, "3rd time's a charm". The menu is varied and unique. Hearty, healthy, and everything in between. The drink options seem endless too. Their partners, Kaldis coffee and Effin vodka, aid in making that possible. I sat at the bar, so I had a pretty good feel for the pulse of the restaurant. The servers work fast and efficiently. A couple things of negative note. Their smoothies came out with varying degrees of thickness. Their fresh fruit seemed more like semi-fresh fruit. Other than that, I was very much impressed in all facets. Come on in to the Shack and make a real life "Monopoly payment" to these guys. I promise, you won't be disheartened.

    Great breakfast and brunch. Brant one of the owners is a gem of a human being. Omelettes, skillets, sandwiches, in a light and casual dining room. The young waitresses are always on their game and they sell their cute coffee mugs. I highly recommend The Shack.

    Just went there and the food was awesome! Alyssa took care of us and she was very welcoming! She was able to answer questions and give recommendations! Which often restaurant workers aren't able to do because the don't care. I got the corned beef hash which I really enjoyed because there is actual pieces of corned beef in it, not tiny ground up corned beef. My mom got the tacos(pork belly and fish) with sweet potato tater tots! Those tots were amazing as were the tacos! Heard so many good things about this place and finally got to go! Glad I can cross this off my restaurants to visit and I will definitely be coming back!! And they don't have a huge menu which in my opinion is a good sign because that means they focus more on the food that they do offer and it definitely showed! Thanks for a great experience and service!

    My first impression- weird to see a staff dressed in work out gear We were sat on table three Biscuits and gravy- the dish itself was hotter than the gravy Philly skillet- okay, would be better hot I get the feeling unless you're friends with the employees, expect non chalant service. I asked for coffee and cream. Got the coffee and a few minutes later had to ask the bartender for the bowl of cream. She took our order and I asked for a large glass of ice. Several minutes later I had to ask again and she definitely seemed annoyed. However, to finish Delaney was very cheerful when she brought the cc receipt back and said have a great day! Maybe I'm just extra critical since I have been in the biz for too long.

    Just came home from The Shack. This location has been many things the last being a Mexican restaurant. I don't think it will be anything else unless the owners close it because they are tired of making money. They have hit a home run here. West County has very few breakfast places and this fits the bill perfectly. I have read the reviews of fellow Yelpers and I think we as Yelpers may have created a monster. Not everyone reads Yelp but we tend to tell people who tell people who come. This place was crowded and deserved to be crowded. I ordered The slinger and a side of biscuits and gravy only because Steve B had a side of biscuits and gravy in his review. The Slinger for the people who are not from St. Louis is first layer hash browns, second layer hamburger patties, third layer chili, and topped by eggs. Yikes the thing is filling beyond belief and so tasty. The menu is huge so come hungry and get some great food.

    This is a newer establishment that is located where a Mexican restaurant I used to enjoy going to was. Now, that restaurant was fine and all but this is definitely a step-up! Considering how I remember the place looking The Shack has remodeled it extensively, with a cool motif of metal and wood, giving it a sort of old-time agrarian feel between that and the decorations that consist of old license plates and cool-looking rusty beer taps on various walls. One really delightful thing about the all the wood is for your first visit (or any other if you haven't done it yet) you can get a sharpie and write your name or whatever you feel like (as long as it is appropriate) on the wood. This has already resulted in lots of cool doodles, phrases, and anniversary dates being written down on the wood and reading it does a good job of keeping you busy if you are waiting for a seat. I know what you're thinking now though, what about the food, David? Well, it is delicious! My lady went for a Saturday brunch and she and I split a few items as so much looked appealing--and by the end of breakfast we were quite full. I got some french toast breaded with corn flakes to give it a "big crunch" as the menu said, and the bread-pieces were gigantic! I also shared some biscuits and gravy with my lady along with some tasty sides such as the hash browns and English muffin that came with her order. The coffee was really strong, just how I like it--I had to even add a creamer to it and I rarely do that as usually coffee strikes me as too weak for such a thing, but this brew will put some hair on your chest--so to speak! The servers were also nice and great about getting us refills of our beverages. Overall, I had a wonderful time at The Shack and plan on going back again as it was such a delightful meal!

    Mediocre food and stupid concept! I hardly have words for how bad this place is. Mediocre is a generous adjective for the food. I ordered one of their $7 burgers. It was delivered as a tasteless piece of meat with two scrawny pieces of equally tasteless bacon on a dry bun and no condiments offered. The place bills its concept as "Breakfast, Lunch and Sometimes Dinner". Maybe they should just stick to breakfast. In the mood for a bad meal in an atmosphere so loud you can't have a conversation with the person across the table, then hurry, this place won't be open long!

    The Shack was so delicious and unique. I get so sick of cookie-cutter breakfast joints. The coffee was excellent, and I got the Madam de Shack to eat...it was humongous! I couldn't finish it! A little pricey, but worth it for the awesome food. I love that they let you write all over the walls, makes it fun for little ones. I want to try the pancakes and biscuits and gravy at some point! We will go back soon!

    Our party of 7 enjoyed attentive service the entire time we were here for breakfast. The menu is great, lots of creative breakfast items to choose from. They get super busy so be open to the possibility of a wait.

    It's not often I tout about breakfast options in St. Louis. In fact when I was living there, the thought of going out to breakfast was not pleasant, as I can only handle so much oily sunny side up, burnt hash browns and flat coffee. Even after several breakfast-y places opened up, I was still not impressed. Until the Shack experience. On a whim I suggested this place to my friends as it's fairly close to I-270. It's on the corner of an outdoor strip mall plaza, though they definitely could use a larger sign. We all ordered different things - sandiwches, wraps, and breakfast-y stuff (tip: get the Because We Can E-Z, on page #2 of the menu), and we all walked away impressed. The portion size is decent for the price, and the atmosphere has an old country pub feel to it. The manager even stopped by to check on us twice - so our first impression was very pleasant. When I venture back to St. Louis again, I can't wait to come back to the Shack and see what they've done to improve even further.

    Busy Sunday for The Shack! But our table of 6 was sat in a half hour as promised. We ordered Bloody Mary's and shakes. Their bar staff struggled to keep up and forgot our shake. But the waitress did make it herself. Got the corn beef hash skillet! Awesome food. Very tasty. We did have to get some corrections made but the staff bringing out the food followed up. Never got the cream for the coffee. Still liked the concept and we will be back again.

    Stopped in for breakfast. We were quoted a 20 minutes wait - took more like 5 minutes before we were seated. During those 5 minutes we got a nice history lesson regarding the Shack and the other two restaurants sitting on the same strip mall, all owned by the same owner. First, I love the space - roomy, nice re-purposed table tops (made from old doors), lots of wood everywhere, which you are allowed to write on with markers. The patio looked really inviting, but we opted to stay inside. Food was fantastic. I ordered the GRINGO KILLER which contained chorizo, onion, bell peppers, green chili salsa and queso blanco cheese. Anytime I see a chorizo skillet on the menu, I order it. I've found that they are pretty standard - not this one. I LOVED IT! First - not sure if they make their chorizo, but this was not greasy at all and it was actually pretty light. The hashbrowns were so yummy and crispy, all the veggies were delicious, but the highlight for me was that housemade warm salsa on top. It was sooooo good! I wish they bottled it, I would have bought some. As a matter of fact, my boyfriend ordered the KING OF CLUB (chicken, bacon, tomato, cheddar cheese and avocado ranch) - which he liked, but he took some of my salsa and said it made his dish even better. I also had an order of biscuits - they were light and fluffy and I loved them. Coffee was good...hell, everything was good. Best part - the prices - totally reasonable for all the food we got - and the great quality. We hope to return for lunch when we get back to St. Louis - some of those sandwiches on the menu sounded really good!! Friendly staff, great food - love this place.

    This was my first visit to The Shack. I live close by and was so excited that a breakfast place finally moved into this building that has been a revolving door for dinner restaurants over the last few years. I am sorry to say that it was a big disappointment! The hostess staff is 5 stars, cute, friendly, accommodating, but everything else is a 1. I thought the graffiti on the walls would be a cool thing, kind of like Gino's East in Chicago, but after all the disappointing food and service, that did not seem so cool either when we are sitting in Frontenac with new million dollar houses being built across the street. It has been really packed on the weekends. We arrived around 10am on Sunday and only had to wait about 15 minutes. My son loves fruit and was looking forward to the blueberry pancake which came out with a huge slop of butter on the top surrounded by a big slop of defrosted blueberries in a blueberry syrup. I guess I have been spoiled by Rooster and the Egg and I but is it really that big of a deal to serve fresh fruit or just leave it off all together?? There were blueberries cooked in the batter which would have been sufficient. Next, he ordered sausage but bacon came out instead so we had to wait a bit for that. I ordered what I thought was a specialty of theirs which was the "Crunch." It's a cool idea but didn't taste so great. It was French toast with corn flakes baked on it. It was over-cooked and did not taste too good. My husband had an "order your own omelet" that he liked. He ordered coffee which the waitress forgot about. At least she asked him later if he wanted coffee after seeing the mug still sitting there. Waiting around for him to get his morning coffee isn't too pleasant for either of us if you know what I mean!! Basically, I am just VERY sad because we love going out for breakfast on the weekends and this is the perfect location. This is the only reason that we MAY try it one more time. If we do, I will order an omelet and make sure that my husband drinks some coffee before leaving the house.

    Food was good but the service was terrible. Waitress told us the beer we wanted wasn't as good as what they had. The bartender came out to tell us we were wrong and they don't listen to customers' input. Food came out in two groups, spaced 30 minutes apart, so half of us were done before the others got their food. Then when they did get their food, it was wrong. They couldn't figure out how to split our check, so just waiting for our credit cards to come back took another 30 minutes.

    My family enjoyed the 99PBMBAO and Cease and Desist burgers. would like them to ask how we'd like our burgers cooked, they were a little well done. The Shackalicious sauce is definitely worth a try! Sweet potato tots were original and yummy. As a vegetarian I had the Veggie the Greek sandwich which was fresh and tasty, maybe missing the feta? (Oops) Great beer selection, music and service tops it off for a nice place for a family to eat for dinner!

    Wonderful Breakfast, this place opened three days ago and unlike so many places everyone seemed very well trained and plenty of staff on hand. The service was great. I had one of the skillets, a veggie one and it was very yummy and perfect portion, filling but not any left over. My husband had biscuits and gravy with ham and eggs and he loved it. We both had "happy plates" , very clean! Check out web sight because the only do dinner three nights. Oh, and I had a bloody mary and it was really good, the salt on rim was spicy. Yum! The decor is rustic and you can sign the wall. The large space has been broken up and can seem more intimate now. Looks like there is a room that could be closed off for a private party.

    Great relaxed atmosphere. Impressive menu. We enjoyed two of their skillets and a side of biscuits and gravy. Next time I'd love to try the breakfast pizza ( which is whatever the cook feels like making) or their French toast encrusted with corn flakes. Outdoor patio, TV screens, and everyone's welcomed to write on the walls. And great music! Will definitely go again soon.

    I really wanted to like this. We're always looking for a good spot to meet up with our west county friends. We stopped by for a meal after catching a movie in Des Peres. The beer list is pretty solid, but more $ than I'm used to paying. My 99PBMBAO burger was pretty much on par with what I'd expect to get at a fast food joint--not my style at all meat wise. The toppings didn't salvage it much. My date ordered green eggs & ham loaded fries. He couldn't finish them (rare), and I thought it was decent until I got some of the pork belly, which was barely edible. We pretty much left wondering how this place receives such great reviews on yelp. Yikes.

    Don't go here unless you want to have a fun adventure. I stumbled across this place word of mouth and we went for breakfast. Hold on to your hat - this ain't your grandma's breakfast. The servers are busy but friendly and accommodating. The menu is so unusual. Give yourself some time to fully explore. Be daring! Our food was excellent and the food I saw coming out to other tables also looked amazing. Go here and perk up your whole day! Caution calorie counters - you will face some challenges.

    So, my review is really 3 1/2 stars. An "A-OK" experience it was! We arrived around 11 a.m. on Sunday. The wait for 2 people was around 25-30 minutes. Sure. Not a problem. The place was packed! We were seated at one of the high tables and ordered our food. I ordered the Because We Can E-Z, two enormous slices of french toast sandwiching a hefty amount of eggs, and turkey sausage (I skipped the bacon), with a side of crispy hashbrowns. Enormous!! My husband got the biscuits and gravy which he loved! And while I wanted to give it 4 stars, I couldn't. Here's my breakdown: 1 1/2 stars - for the immature hostesses who kept whispering about each customer they sat. I get it. You're around 16. But seriously, grow up and be professional. 3 stars - The food took about (or at least it felt unusually long) 20-30 minutes to arrive. Way too long for breakfast/brunch food. 2 stars - When the food arrived it was on the warm side of hot. It wasn't hot-hot like it should be. One of my biggest peeves if receiving warm food!! I truly, truly loathe it!! 4 stars - The food/plate may have been warm. But it was tasty! From the looks of the menu, there's something for everyone. Healthier options, alcoholic beverages, smoothies, etc. 4 stars - This goes to our server Don who checked in on us regularly, apologized for the long wait (on the food) and deducted 50% off of our total bill. Yeah, you read it right. 50% off the total bill. It was a nice gesture and made us feel appreciated. Will we be back to try it again? Sure! I'm hopeful they'll work out the kinks.

    I don't really understand the concept of how The Shack came to be except that it used to be a dive bar/sandwich place in the city that moved before I could try them out, and finding out that they were suddenly serving breakfast in addition to their previous fare piqued my interest. I just have to say it was bizarre driving out of the city to a county strip mall for brunch, although once you get inside, aside from the clientele, you really can't tell you're out in the suburbs. The place is space-age meets country rustic. The tables are repurposed doors, and contrasting the metal, industrial ceilings, guests are allowed to leave their mark (you're allowed to only once and no larger than an index card, please) on the wooden walls. It's fun reading what other people have written to commemorate their time there...I think it would make a fun birthday get-together or a casual date. Foodwise, they are doing a lot of things right. Portions were a little smaller than what I'm used to, but it's all so good. I had the Greek Omelet with hashbrowns and english muffin. My entire plate had so much flavor. It was absolutely delicious, and something I'd want to eat for breakfast every day. My egg whites were cooked perfectly, the chicken and feta inside made my inner yiayia weep with joy. The english muffin was perfectly grilled (toasted?) and crunchy, and my hashbrowns hit the spot perfectly. The only disappointment was that I found the Lohan's Rehab berry antioxidant smoothie to be kind of bland and unimpressive, but this may have been due to the water content of berries in general. Toward the end I could taste some banana, but I was expecting something more flavorful. It was disappointing, but I guess it's my fault for expecting more from Lindsay Lohan... Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. Their website is kind of crazy in that you have to open up three different pdfs just to see the brunch menu alone....but I highly recommend you check it out. Literally everything on the menu looks amazing, and I can't wait to be back on the rare occasion I leave the city. Wish you guys stayed in Midtown! :(

    Hooray! Finally a terrific, non-chain (and non-Uncle Bill's) breakfast place in the area! Visited here with Mr. Beth & the kiddo this morning for breakfast and it was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere is super fun with reclaimed wood & old doors for tables. It is a VAST improvement over the space before (see Wild Agave reviews), and fills the void for a desperately needed breakfast place. The little guy had pancake & eggs, and OMG - I don't know what they do to the pancake, but it's like a desert - buttery, fluffy & vaguely sweet, like a pastry or beignet. The fresh fruit side was blueberries & strawberries - his favorite. Some places skimp on the type of fruit they use, but I was pleased by what they brought out. I had a Greek Omelet (chicken, tomato, onion, spinach and feta cheese) which included some of the best crispy & buttery hash browns. Mr. Beth had the Kitchen Sink skillet (ham, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and white cheddar). Both were outstanding. The bottle of water is a nice idea and the Kaldis coffee & OJ were great. One suggestion I would make to the owners is to install some sun sails or something on the outside patio to filter the sunlight a bit. Their patio isn't shaded, so it gets blasted with sun in the morning, and outdoor breakfast dining in full sun and humidity is pretty miserable says me :)

    Had a late weekend breakfast at The Shack and the place was PACKED. This is always a good sign! Instead of waiting for a table we sat at the bar. The two adorable girls behind the bar were great. They both took good care of us by keeping our drinks topped off. We also enjoyed watching them make their smoothies, and they made a lot of them. I had a light egg white skillet and shared the berry purée covered French Toast. The portion sizes were generous and the food was quite tasty. Overall this was a high energy, fun and upbeat atmosphere with wonderful service and food. Their menu/entree names were fun and witty. They mostly just do breakfast and lunch and I was a bit unclear about when they actually served dinner but if you are looking for a great breakfast joint check this place out.

By the way "Shack Staff", when the customer is making suggestions, please do not argue with them and tell them they are wrong. Rule of thumb....customer is usually right.     So happy a breakfast place opening up near us. Always busy on the weekends, so go early to avoid waits. On the more than a dozen visits we have made here staff and managers are always excellent! Food is very filling and a bit unhealthy but smaller portion items are available. Great for kids! Highly recommend for breakfast.

    I have only been here once but do plan on returning. I had the Meg Ryan and my eggs were a little runny for being scrambled-may have been the feta cheese that I had added. My breakfast companion said that his eggs were the best he has had at a restaurant. I love that you can pick from different breads or a pancake instead-and also there is no added charge for egg whites only. I opted for the pancake instead of toast or muffin...wow...so good. Crispy edges and all. The service is very good and very friendly. The place does get crowded quickly. I was there on a Tuesday at 10 and it was very busy. I called a few weeks later on a Sunday at 10am-they said the wait was 1hour 1/2.....but you get to write your name on the wall....so I will take it! They kind of have the breakfast cornered in the area. There are no other sit down (unless fast food) places nearby. Even if you drive 10miles to the nearest....can't compete with the variety that the menu here offers

    Alright, I get the quirky "we are going to be open weird hours so someone remembers me" attitude to try and set another restaurant out from the masses of food choices out there today, and I don't want to say the food is bad, it's a solid menu with mediocre execution. However when someone is in a business in the hospitality industry, or any industry, remember it's all about making your customer feel like they want to frequent a product or facility because you make it enjoyable. To my complaint...I have kids sleeping, wife works all night on weekends and is on her way home we thought, hey that Shack place had a good breakfast she asks if I want her to stop there on the way home to grab something since the kids are sleeping and can't meet there. Great idea, make the call and they "can't help us because we don't do carry out on the weekend." Wait. Excuse me? Um. What?! This type of blatant disregard for the customer experience makes me dream of doing things like eating there often on the weekend, placing an order after sitting down and asking them immediately to box it up to call them back and say you don't do carry out? *maniac cackling* but instead I'll just share the experience of a mediocre establishment with blatant disregard to their customer experience.     If your looking for over priced food and a long wait this is your place. I get it, you are paying for the ambiance and the nontraditional menu. I was looking forward to that too, but my experience was awful. First they seat us outside, in the hot sun, next to a bug infested flower bed, without even asking if it was okay. Not everyone likes eating outside, ask first. Next I ordered a glass of orange juice. It cost $3.50. It was from concentrate and was a horrible mixture. If I paying $3.50 for orange juice it better be the real thing. It was seriously digusting. Lastly, when asking for substitutions on breakfast (my wife doesn't care for green peppers) they were unable to make that happen. Creative? Yes. Good food? Sure, I mean how bad can you mess up a pancake or eggs? Execution? Sucked.

    The atmosphere was wonderful: family friendly, casual and lively. The service was great. Tina was awesome. She was efficient and quick. This Georgia girl had some of the best biscuits & gravy of her life. Rich, flavorful and spicy gravy with heavenly fluffy biscuits. I also had the kitchen sink skillet. Also great. Not as amazing as the biscuits & gravy but outstanding nonetheless. I snuck some of my kid's pancakes also delicious. Add Kaldi's coffee & reasonable prices and you get my new breakfast spot. I'll be back. Next weekend with the husband & possibly more people in tow.

    $3.00 for a cup of coffee is INSANE, even if it's Kaldi's! For that price, you would think that they could include a spoon in the wrapped silverware..., but, I guess that their "hillbilly" motif allows them to be less that "complete"...expect when it comes to their pricing...The Shack goes for EVERY penny they can squeeze out of it's customers...! Pancake was AWFUL. Omelet was good but light of mushroom, spinach, etc...

    We are really excited The Shack decided to move their location out to the suburbs! We were never able to visit while in the midtown area. There are definitely a few kinks that need to be worked on with any new location/waiters/staff etc. Like a short high hair and higher tables means our kid kept hitting his face on the table. And a few of the coffee mugs were dirty. But our food was excellent!! The breakfast pizza this week had gravy, sausage, bacon, cheese and scrambled eggs. It was SO. GOOD. Manilow's French toast was really good too! A little less berry syrup & creme fraiche would have made it perfect. Everything is reasonably priced and since they are so close we will definitely be back!

    I tried this place out for brunch one morning and it was delicious. Sometimes you have to wait a little bit for a table on Sunday mornings but its worth it. They have wood panel walls that anyone can write on in permanent marker which is very cool and personal.

    My husband and I recently ate at The Shack for breakfast....it was delicious!! I had an egg white omelet with spinach and feta cheese (they have build your own omelets!) and it was so good. I got fruit instead of hash browns on the side (strawberries/blueberries). My husband got the biscuits and gravy which came with bacon and 2 eggs. He said it was all really good, but raved about the biscuits and gravy! We're really excited to have a good breakfast place in the neighborhood. The inside is really cool with raw wood paneling(?) everywhere. They have fresh fruit and protein smoothies that I can't wait to try!

    Food and service at the Shack is fantastic. This is a dinner review and I must say that their breakfast is 5 star, but the dinner is just a little under my breakfast-based expectations. The 99 problems burger was good, maybe a little over cooked, but the sweet potato tots and pickle chips made up for it. The tacos were very yummy and my wife's shaved ribeye sammich was also very good. It's hard to do fresh cut fries right, and the Shack is almost there. Maybe just a tad soggy. Great selection of craft beers! Love the Shack for breakfast and will definitely be back for dinner. Good / great PubGrub!

    I've never understood why the St. Louis area has such a shortage of restaurants that serve even an average breakfast so The Shack, insofar as its menu goes, comes as a welcome addition. That's the good if you're seeking a breakfast that is a 180 degree departure from the offerings at Denny's, Ihop, or the run of the mill diner. The menu is a creative alternative and professionally prepared using fresh ingredients. In short the food is very good, something you would expect from the same folks that own The Tavern and the Corner Pub ( all in the same strip mall ). That being said, my particular experience went somewhat downhill after that. Our table wasn't very clean and the service attitude was just "meh" lacking any enthusiasm whatsoever unlike their sister establishments. However, I'll give the place the benefit of the doubt since it was shortly after 8:00 AM on a Sunday morning. Be warned however, that The Shack is baby/kid friendly which is fine when in check. On my visit they weren't which of course detracts from the overall experience! But if you can overlook the shortcomings I've mentioned and if you're wanting WAY above average food, go to there!!!!

    I did not enjoy my experience at the shack at all. First of all, when we were seated, I could not get over how uncomfortable the chairs were. I am a heavier set person, and they were digging into me the whole time. Also, we were seated by a wall, and had to endure children running and screaming right near us to write on the chalk wall. Our waitress was emotionless. She didn't bring us water, and brought us flat sodas, and complained when we asked for fresh. She said very little to us the whole time we were there. I didn't have a lot of hope for this place right from the start, but I tried to stay optimistic. Upon ordering, we ordered a few sandwiches and a large fry. I ordered my sandwich without the hot sauce, and asked for it on the side instead. When we received the meal, we were given a small fry, and when we asked for the correct size, we never got one. My sandwich also had the hot sauce slathered all over it. Not to mention the food was mediocre and not at all up to par. Upon leaving I went to the McDonald's across the street, because even that fast food junk was more nutritious and delicious than this place. I will not be recommending or returning to the shack anytime ever again.

    Best breakfast in town! Tons of great options - sweet and savory! This is another wonderful creation by the Corner Pub and Grill folks (Corner Pub, The Tavern, Cucina Pazzo). They also serve dinner Thurs-Sat. Attentive and polite service. The owner is super friendly and is there to make sure you are enjoying everything. He is also open to feedback in order to make your experience. Very suitable for a business meeting over breakfast/lunch, going there with a group of friends, or taking the family out for brunch! You must check it out!

    I came to The Shack with a few friends Sunday for late Breakfast. We got there around 11 and were told it was going to be a 45 minute wait. We decided to grab a drink at the bar while we waited and were very lucky to have seats open up right as we were walking over so we just ate there. Both my friends got a Mimosa which they added cider to the mix I believe. It was a little too tart for my taste but they both enjoyed it. I got a bloody mary which was made with cucumber vodka. The bartender doubled check to make sure I was ok with that since he said not everyone is a fan of that flavor vodka. They have two options, a veggie and a meaty bloody mary. I opted for the meaty which was served with a strip of bacon and a hollowed out jerky straw. The drink wasn't that spicy I had to add extra tobasco and overall was ok but nothing that impressive. For my meal I made my own omelet and it has to be the best omlete I've ever had. The egg was moist and fluffy and they definitely didn't skimp on the fillings. I had it topped with their special SHACK cheese with is like a spicy nacho cheese sauce and it was delicious. Both my friends also got omletes and everyone was very please. My one friend subbed the english muffin with the dish for a side of biscuits and gravy and OMG the best we've ever had. I definitely will be coming back to try more breakfast options and lunch options!

    Glad this opened!!! Nice to see a non chain restaurant for breakfast. The food is amazing ! everything I have tried has been wonderful and very fresh and beautiful. If you haven't seen the Bloody Mary I would recommended this fun unique treat at least once. The smoothies are amazing as well. The atmosphere staff and rustic feel is relaxing while dining. Def will make this a regular stop for breakfast. Must check this place out.

    First thing you notice walking in is just how stylish this place is. Everything from the menu to the cleaver coffee cups. They specialize in brunch and booze and that's exactly what you should go here for. The menu is perhaps a bit sparse but everything on there is a good pick. I personally love the omelets though in the two times we've come here our family has spanned the entire menu, and had no complaints.

    So far I have yet to order something bad from this place. The ingredients are fresh - or at least they taste super fresh. The hash browns are spectacular, and I've had two different types of omelettes and both were great.mI've seen their breakfast pizza, and I'm not sure that would've been up my alley, but I've also seen their "make a grown man cry" burrito, and that looked absolutely delicious. Next time I'm there I want to try their Bloody Mary. I bet I saw ten people walk past with one in their hand.

    We had been to the old location for lunch and really liked their sandwiches. When I found out they were opening in Valley Park I was thrilled, although we're not real "going out to breakfast" people. So glad we did. The food was outstanding. We waited for about 40 minutes on a Sunday morning and it was worth it. Will definitely be going back. I do wish they were opened for dinner during the week, but oh well. Glad to have them close by!

    Ok. So this is my first time here and I have to say that the atmosphere and food were great . I truly appreciated the wall writings and the rules regarding the wall writing. I was a little disappointed in the service. It was a weekday and it was lunch time but it took almost 20 minutes to get our order taken and about the same amount of time to get our check. Loved the food, service could use some work

    I went here with my family Memorial Day weekend for breakfast. It was very crowded and it took us about 30 minutes to be seated. The atmosphere is neat in that they allow patrons to write their names on the walls with permanent marker. It reminded me of ocean city vacation restaurants I've been to in the past. The food was pretty good and there is a wide variety of options to choose from. I had one of the skillets with sausage and pork belly. I was somewhat unimpressed with the pork belly, but the eggs were cooked nicely and the hashbrowns were seasoned well. I saw other tables with incredible looking Bloody Mary cocktails that looked divine. I'll be returning.

    WOW! Where to start...first of all, The Shack is a breath of fresh air in a West County breakfast world of boring places to eat. The decor at The Shack is eclectic and fun, with patron's signatures and witty remarks written in Sharpie on the walls. The menu is clever and unique with something for everyone. My wife had two pancakes with wild berries. The pancakes were huge and fluffy with plenty of berries and homemade whipped cream. My high school aged son, with an infinite appetite, chose the King of Club omelet...and he did not leave the table hungry. I had the Philly CheeseSteak skillet and it was terrific. Two eggs with mushrooms, red bell peppers, onions and thin sliced steak on a bed of hash browns with a bit of spicy cheese sauce on top served in an iron skillet. Coffee was hot and tasty with a carafe left on the table for the java drinkers. Our server was attentive and sweet and the management stopped by to make sure all was good. The rest of the staff shared in cleaning our table, serving our food and fetching butter. We arrived around 8:15am on Sunday morning and had a short wait. By the time we left, the lobby was packed and the bar area was completely full...and the experience we had makes a longer wait justified. This is our new favorite breakfast spot! I would encourage Mellisa M. to give The Shack another shot...at least for breakfast. I would guess that her review would be much different.

    Stopped in for brunch with friends on a rainy Sunday & The Shack did NOT disappoint. The only downside was our 20-minute wait for a table. Kaldi's coffee was served & we were waited on in a timely manner. Everyone cleared their plates & for the $11.48 bill I had at the end, I was a happy camper. I would recommend for sure!

    First time eating at the Shack and food was fantastic! Highly recommend the Meg Ryan. You get to pick your meat, bread and style of eggs! We got smoothies to go and the peanut butter and banana was awesome! I Will definitely be going back to this place. I liked the creativity of the menu with the names they used for some of their dishes. Although, I Was a little disappointed they didn't have corned beef hash on the menu.... but everything else was perfect!

    Fantastic gluten free breakfast menu - the GF pancakes are amazing! Quickly becoming my favorite breakfast spot... the food comes out quickly, everything is delicious and the service is always very good and very friendly.

    Two thumbs up! The blueberry pancakes were a perfect dessert to my ham, eggs, and hash browns. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, but when we got seated, the service was great, coffee was excellent, the food was delicious.

    I'm pretty the shack and the tavern were created by the owners of the corner pub. They are all right next to each other. The food at the shack was delicious. My chocolate pancake was awesome. The service was very good and I enjoyed my breakfast there. I will be coming back.

    If you cannot intervene to help a dog locked in a hot car then you must not have much regard for animals and are willing to look the other way when you see abuse, I will never ever eat at your dump.

    Really good experience on a not-too busy Sunday morning. Great coffee, kid-friendly, yummy skillets. I'd go with the Gringo killer next time- the bite I had wasn't enough.

    I am really, really surprised I am forbidden by the laws of culinary physics to give the Shack no higher than a two star. Everything is relative so this two star at a really nice and upscale breakfast/lunch place blows many other two star places out of the water! That being said. I expect a certain value for the money spent. Shack just didn't perform up to the standards I am familiar with at either of the two Corner Bars. (One of those being a chip shot away in the same mall) It was time for just a nice lunch out with my wife. I got the "Cease and Desist" burger ( I am guessing they meant Big Mac copy? After getting it I am still not sure). 1 of 5 stars for this sandwich. The Grocery store Kaiser bun was huge compared to the 5-6oz burger which was FRIED TO DEATH! Both sides of the patty were bordering on charcoal. I asked can we specify cooking temp...NO, "We cook everything ALL the way"??? Corner has good burgers cooked to temp...why not the Shack? You could smell the acrid aroma as they place my tray on the table. I got a thin slice of tomato from the end of the tomato, a little sloppy chopped yellow iceberg lettuce and six to eight half slices of red onions. The special sauce appeared to be on there, but there was no way to taste it through the charred burger. One nice thing is there were two pieces of American Cheese on the burger. Half way through I had to simply put ketchup on it to moisten it up and cover up the bitter char. My wife got the 99"pmbabquetrbsiofkf??????" burger. 2 of 5 stars(bacon earned the second star!) It sounded good.... burger with cheese, thick cut bacon and a fried egg. My wife asked if she could get the egg over medium as she really doesn't like super runny eggs.....assured by our waitress that was no problem. The burgers came, my wife's egg was sunny side up! I am talking pre-dawn sunny side up. The whites were still clear. After waiting almost ten minutes for our waitress to stop back by and half my sandwich almost gone, we asked if they could cook the egg to over medium as we requested....server simply said OK, took it away and came back in about five minutes with an egg that was simply put back onto the grill bottom side down! The yoke was still runny as snot, the whites were at least not clear anymore...Do they not know what over medium and no runny yoke means? My wife just went with it and scraped all the gelatinous chicken embryo (We all know that well cooked chicken embryo is best!) off her burger and dug in. Same disgusting three levels beyond well done burger as dry as dry can be. She ate half the burger, took the meat off and had a little more of a fried egg sandwich with some GREAT bacon! Server never asked why she had half the burger patty on her tray uneaten. Our server was nice, but she really didn't seen to care one way or another. We split loaded fries. 0.5 of 5 stars! We got the ?loaded baked potato? version. Soggy fries that were probably very good before they worked their "Magic" on them. What killed the fries for us was the ridiculous amount of pumped cheese like you put on nachos at the ball park. They put sour cream, green onions & AWSOME bacon on top. The fries were like eating a hospital cafeteria faux cheesy baked potato. How/why do they not put real cheese on these fries? Another half eaten dish being cleared with no questions or concern about why half of our meal was being thrown away. We went at noon on Friday and they were not even half full, I drove by a week ago at lunch time on Saturday and there was a wait to get in. I am starting to feel like maybe their lunch menu was offered because "Why not". They know how to cook burgers at Corner Bar and grill, I just had one two weeks ago and the burgers were top notch! Why the Shack is insisting they will cook them ONLY all the way........I just don't get it! I will for sure, without hesitation try them again at the Shack....but seeing how only two other meals coming out during our visit was "lunch food", I am guessing maybe the breakfast route is their main focus? Beautiful interior, super high expectations and Charcoal covered with a runny egg.......maybe the stars will align next time? All tables get glasses of water as the waitress comes to introduce herself, neat concept, unfortunately the water was at best 60 degrees. Warm water with no ice......a little off mark again. I really wanted, and still want Shack to be great! $32 for lunch, not bad for the quality of ingredients....to much for how it was prepared!

    Our breakfast was a disappointment. We visited on a Tuesday morning at 930. Our orders were simple. The meats and hash browns appeared to be pre-cooked, held and warmed up before serving. This made the meats dry and tough, both the bacon and sausage would have been tasty if fresh. It was a shame. The hash browns were very greasy. The scrambled eggs and the omelettes were cooked until browned which is not to our taste. The over easy eggs were over hard. Good English muffins - grilled, not toasted. The toast was a great quality wheat bread - thick and well toasted - but only one slice! We have never been served a single piece of toast before! Sure hope this is not a new trend. We appreciated the bottle of water and pot of Kaldi's coffee left on the table. Perhaps on a busier day the kitchen would have turned out freshly prepared food.

    Well worth the wait. I had the build your own omelette with Pepper Jack cheese, onions, spinach, sausage, and fresh jalapeno. AWESOME!!

    We were excited to try out the Shack for dinner. it is only open for dinner on week-ends. We were not terribly impressed. I had the Burger with special sauce (not that special). It came on a big bun and the burger didn't come close to filling it. it was just OK- not great. The fries were cold, we actually asked for a large order and they brought a small order so the waitress brought us a second small order and it was also cold. Then we were charged for 2 small orders instead of the large. Probably won't go back for dinner- will stick to the Corner Pub (same owners and right next store). Better menu, more choices, better prices and better food. Will definitely try it for breakfast though!

    I think this is a great addition to the Des Peres/Ballwin area that feels like a cool Clayton or CWE restaurant without having to make the shlep. We have been for breakfast several times and dinner once. Dinner was great, and exactly what I would expect: swankier and more unique than Corner Pub, but not as upscale (or expensive) as Tavern. Breakfast is delicious. The Shack is not quite on the level of Rooster or Half & Half, but it's WAY above places like First Watch. Our food has always been delicious, and once our food took way too long to arrive, my pancake was cold, and my skillet was just barely warm.....I didn't want want to complain, but I want this restaurant to succeed, so I wanted the server to have the feedback: the food ain't hot. I told our server, and the manager came over, immediately apologized, brought me fresh piping hot orders of each, AND took 50% off our bill. They were so gracious about it, and once I had a hot skillet and hot pancake, the food is top notch. Definitely give it a try! (Gotta get past the fact that it's in a strip mall).

    Excellent restaurant! Me, my wife, and a friend of ours went here last night for dinner. The atmosphere was very nice, clean, and stylish. A number of tv's placed so there's always one in view for a big game, but not overwhelming like a sports bar. The walls in the bar area are decorated with beer taps, old and new. Apparently there's a wall you can sign? Didn't see it but still a cool idea. Exposed ductwork and a classy color scheme blend with an almost rustic "shack" feel. The service was excellent. It was their first day open so I expected some service hiccups, but our server was very fast, responsive, and knowledgeable. It was almost as if she's worked there for years. The food, very creative names and sandwiches! My friend and I both had shackwiches, his was pulled pork, mine was ribeye. A couple food complaints knock this to four stars, the shackwiches did not have much meat at all, only a very thin layer. The rest of it was all filler (fries, slaw, cheese), so much so that it was hard to eat because it was falling apart. I did enjoy it, but more meat would be nice! My wife got a grilled cheese without bacon, but unfortunately someone forgot to grill the cheese! So she basically ate a cheese sandwich. She was not impressed by that particular sandwich, but there are plenty of selections that she could try next time. Good but not overwhelming selection of craft beer on tap and creative boozie shakes and other drinks. I ordered a pale ale and was impressed they actually served it in a proper glass and not just an average pint glass. All-in-all, will return and definitely will try their breakfast, looks like a very good breakfast menu. Run by the same guys who run the Tavern and Corner Pub, I'm sure this will be a successful West County staple destination like their other restaurants!
